Engineers day in India is celebrated as the tribute to the greatest Indian civil Engineer BHARAT RATNA Sir M. Viswesharya KCIE FASc (15 September 1860-14 April 1962) more commonly known as Sir M V. He was the 19th Diwan of Mysore from 1912 to 1919. He received India's highest honor the Bharat Ratna in 1955

Born on 15th September  1861 to a Telugu family at Chikkaballarpur, Karnataka, his parents were well known Sanskrit scholars. His completed his primary education in his home town and later moved to Bengaluru for higher studies. He passed a UG degree in Arts. He changed his mind and studied civil engineering in college of engineering Pune.

Sir MV was the chief engineer of Krishna Raja Sagar Dam in the north west suburb of Mysuru city, CE of the flood protection system of Hyderabad city. He was an expert in irrigation engineering and flood disaster management.

He was appointed early in 1884 to the post of Assistant Engineer in Bombay PWD, WITH A START OF Supervisory and administrative duties  of a general nature involving irrigation channels, repair of Anicuts and distribution, he was entrusted with the direct execution of a pipe system across a channel which carried water from Panjra river. He designed a water supply scheme for Dhulia. He had done buildings and roads also.

In April 1899 he was placed in charge of the Poona irrigation district. Sir MV designed and patented a system of automatic waste weir flood gates. After premature retirement from Bombay PWD he gave his consent to act as a special consulting engineer from April 15 1909 to protect Hyderabad from flood this work made him all INDIA prominence
