Introduction

Research and developments is the back bone of every industry. Then we must study about the persons behind it, that is scientists and engineers. Design innovation is required specialized persons to carry out research and through which development of organization is only possible. These persons are selected and given freedom better environment and good remuneration. This may have some uncertainty about success so funding is also is not certain.

Personality of R&D Personal  

In pre degree I had better marks for chemistry but I took physics as my main subject in the degree study only because of the attraction of the personality of the physics professor. R&D wing also have marketing strategy. Persons with good morality should be appointed because team work is to be encouraged.

Education

Educational expertise should be a must for the R&D Personal because uneducated one may came forward with wonderful claims like they can make petrol from water or ayurvedic medicine for cancer cure etc. job rotation is needed for R&D personal and Non R&D persons, this may help them avoiding tension. Rewards shall be a good encouragement for right person to prosper high.

Role of R&D

New concepts generation is done by R&D Personals. This new technical idea is demonstrated and published and proposed for formal management approval. Now the idea is put into practice. Proper training is given to less experienced persons. Each role requires unique skills. The recruitment of right person is difficult so one of them is left it may cause problems. Idea generation needed expert persons in one or more fields. Up to date knowledge and information about that field is a must for the personals. New inventions and latest research papers about the subject is made available.

Conflicts

Conflicts or difference of opinion is always present in interpersonal relationship. These should be managed well or it may affect the health of the organization. There may be technical conflicts.

Implications for change

The main difference between R&D and non R&D wings of an organization are the following, uncertainty of success is maximum, creativity expected is high, technical expertise is also must be high, defining tasks is difficult.

While ageing stress level becomes high in R&D, but in the case of non R&D it will become low. Younger persons should be appointed in R&D periodically. Problem management in the two wings is opposite to each other.

Critical path method and periodical evaluation and review technique is very useful in R&D for fighting with uncertainty.
